Asteron, the trans-Tasman superannuation and life insurance provider has joined Sunrise in its effort to Cool the Globe.
Joining Cool the Globe, and Lights Off Australia, is just the latest step Asteron has taken to help fight global warming, after also signing up to Earth Hour and taking a pro-active approach to energy consumption at its head office in Sydney.
In June 2006 Asteron moved to a new head office at 321 Kent St, occupying levels five to ten, and holding the building’s signage rights.
Upon renovation and refurbishment of the offices, Asteron demonstrated its commitment to the preservation of our environment, through the use of energy efficient light globes and motion sensors. The energy efficient globes are on timed motion sensors, which are then divided into sections throughout the floors.
This means that Asteron is reducing energy use by not wasting power in ‘down times’. All lights automatically go off at 7pm, unless there is activity, and even then the lights that come on are localised to the area of the action.
Asteron is equally committed to saving energy outside the building at 321 Kent St, Sydney. So, while the Asteron building sign may light up the sky over the city, its maintenance-free energy efficient neon globes use less energy than the alternative: the toxic fluoro bulbs used in many other building signs. The Asteron sign also runs off transformers, which use the least amount of power possible for a sign which is seen from Pyrmont and Darling Harbour.
Asteron is committed to participating in the efforts to reverse the impact that large corporations have on our environment, and applauds Sunrise for initiating the Cool the Globe campaign.
