Lifeguard Definitions
All you need to know about Automatic Enhancements and the Medical Definition Upgrade Benefit
Automatic Enhancements
In July 2018, we introduced some simplified definitions to our Lifeguard policies, to help you understand exactly what you’re covered for and reflect the latest medical terms and practice. These changes are known as Automatic Enhancements, meaning they’re automatically applied to your policy and they don’t impact your existing premiums.
For Recovery policies, the following definitions were updated:
- Coronary Artery Surgery
- Coronary Artery Angioplasty
- Early Stage Prostatic Cancer
- Motor Neurone Disease
- Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest
- Repair or Replacement of Aorta
- Repair or Replacement of Valves.
And for Child Cover policies, we updated the definitions for:
- Brain Damage
- Cancer.
Medical Definitions Upgrade (MDU) Benefit
Since July 2018, your Lifeguard policy also includes a feature called the Medical Definitions Upgrade (MDU) Benefit.
The MDU Benefit lets you apply to upgrade some definitions within your policy – Heart Attack, Cancer and, for some policies, Early Stage Melanoma – to increase your cover.
If your application for the MDU benefit is accepted by us, there will be an increase to your premiums. Speak to your adviser for a quote.
The Benefit can be applied to Lifeguard Recovery Stand Alone cover, the Recovery Package and, where applicable, the Recovery Plus Option.
